A couple weeks ago I read an article about a woman who reached out to a well-known chef on the off-chance he would let her work and learn from him…

Last September, I sent a cold email to the head chef at the Michelin Star restaurant, Convivio, that went something to the effect of, “By day I work at a film company, but I love to cook. I have ZERO formal training. Can I please come in on Saturdays to work and learn?”

And the chef responded, “YES.”

I’ve always wanted to try flower arranging because I have the interests of a 55 year old retiree I think it’s beautiful and therapeutic and I just really like flowers a lot a lot. So I scoured Yelp for florists I liked, fell in love with one, and shot them an email that sounded a lot like “Hi, I love your work, and would love to learn from you. I work hard, I’ll try to stay out of the way, and I’m a marketing consultant so I can offer you my services if that’s an area you need help”.

She and her husband met me for coffee this weekend, worked out a working situation and I’ll even score some pocket money for helping them. Playing with flowers and getting paid.

Awesome
